Let's Learn About Scott
While technically I am a full time underwear model, in my spare time I a Ph.D. Candidate in Cell and Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine where I study issues surrounding preterm labor. I have always been fascinated with how the body works and it just made sense to spend most of my life in academia avoiding the scary real world. I decided to create this podcast because: (1) It's a socially acceptable way to explore my low-grade narcissism, and (2) Molecular Biology rocks, so why not share my fascination with science (and run on sentences) with those around me.
Fun Facts About Me:
I graduated from The University of Oregon in 2000 with a B.S. in Psychology. After finishing school I took the next logical step in my education....I learned to blow stuff up...in the Marine Corps. After six years of talking on a radio to helicopters and jets I decided it was time to try something new. I left that fine organization in 2006 as a Captain, then worked for a short period for Ethicon Endo-Surgery. In an attempt to clear my head while pontificating the next phase of my life, my brother and I rode our bicycles from Sydney to Perth, Australia. To be clear, we didn't break any land speed records during our trip (it took us five months to ride 3,500 miles); however, despite our limited aptitude for distance cycling it was an incredible experience and I am hoping to return to the 'island continent' in the future. Following that adventure I earned a B.S. in Biochemistry to prepare myself for med school, but as it turns out I loved the monotonous solitude of pipetting fluids from one tube to another so much that I decided that a Ph.D. was more my style.....so here we are.
In my spare time I like to take photographs. If you are so inclined you can see my work here: Scott Barnett Photography (link) . Feel free to shoot me an email if you have any questions or comments about the show. firstname.lastname@example.org
The show's Script Editor is Obi, my 18-pound Maine Coon (see picture). If I'm being entirely candid he's remarkably lazy but he is a sweetheart and he works for peanuts....or rather puréed meat...so he can keep his job warming himself on my keyboard for the time being.
Don't worry, I am not a crazy shut in. I am happily married to my wonderful wife, Dharma. While she does not contribute directly to the show, she does a respectable job of feigning interest when I make her 'preview' each episode before I publish :) Now that's love!
